Pair of Menuki Earrings

Pair of contemporary earrings made of Meiji Period (1868-1912) menuki, with figures from the Tale of Genji. One of the earrings shows a beautiful woman reading poetry; the other earring is of Genji and a servant presumably listening to the poetry. The menuki are made of silver, shakudo (an alloy of gold & copper), and gold, with backings of white gold.
