Mitsumasa, Tokisada Nakamura
Netsuke artist. Born 1915 Tokyo, Japan. Actual name Tokisada Nakamura. Masatoshi is the descendant of 22 generations of carvers of Buddhist images. He learned his techniques from his father, Kuya. He is extremely versatile in style and subject matter, and carves in almost any material. His designs range from fanciful to realistic animals and birds; genre to legendary figures; simple abstrations to intricate detailed figures. He is the author of The Art of Netsuke Carving (as told to Raymond Bushell), which has been a guide to developing netsuke carvers worldwide.
