This limited edition lithograph of Charlie Chaplin had severe mold stains in the form of large dark brown spots throughout (foxing) as well as being badly acid burned which made the paper brown and brittle overall. In addition, the previous matting created several halos of "sunburn". After weeks of slow and diligent treatment, Charlie is almost spotless and the acid damage has been reversed, making the paper supple again. Charlie has regained his place as a valuable work of art!
The
conservation and restoration of fine art is a complex discipline requiring the talent and aesthetic sense
