Virtuous monks were often asked to brush talismanic dragons such as this to protect a family from fires, floods, earthquakes, and other natural and man-made disasters. This magic dragon is big, bold, and dynamic. Jade Hill (Gyoko) was a Soto Zen abbot who specialized in brushing calligraphic dragon talismans.
