19th century blue & white and copper red snuff bottle, almost certainly from the Daoguang Period (1821-1850). The porcelain has a cobalt blue painting with a copper red under the glaze. The highlights of copper red remind one of the dramatic forms and character of the scenes of the Chinese opera. This is just such a scene with melodramatic images of people in very colorful and ostentatious clothing. It has the image of 3 people in a pavilion of some sort, and a cloud band at the top. Around the shoulder there is the 5-point circles or dots that some people call star forms. It is a very typical form of the Daoguang Period. However it has a reign mark on the bottom which identifiies it as Yongzheng Period, which it is not. That period was the 1720's. This bottle is about 100 years later, in the 1820's or 30's
