19th century floral topped seal of qing tian steatite from Fukien. There is an unusual carving at the top of this seal. It is the image of a grape vine that has grown up and over in all directions. The image of the vine and fruits is accomplished by carving away all negative space through to the interior, so that it is a kind of reticulated 3-dimensional carving. A curious, unusual form, but quite a creative form for a seal. The stone exposed below has a slightly mottled aspect and it is somewhat translucent. It is a kind of milky yellow brown with an almost snowflake like pattern in the stone.
