Taisho Period (1912-1926) lacquer over wood tea ceremony kogo (incense box) in the shape of a clam. This black lacquer kogo for the tea ceremony has the mark for one of the chapters of "The Tale of Genji." The interior is all gold with the ripples of a stream and water plants.
