Painted when Katsukawa Shunsui was 61 years old. This painter was the student and possible son of Miyagawa Choshun. He changed his name to Katsukawa after Choshun was disgraced. The Japanese regard the dragon and Mt. Fuji as cultural symbols for the greatness of Japan. This painting is a celebration of this artist's age and strength.
