This 1999 Honolulu Printmakers Gift Print is a diptych presenting a visual equation of internal and external sites. The images intend to illustrate a contrasting comparison between distinct organic circumstances. The anatomical rendering of the heart presents an interior vision in difference to the exterior view of the botanical silhouette, a contradictory reflection of that which is within versus that which is without.
This is a lithograph and relief print executed in 15 colors from 10 aluminum lithography plates, 1 lithography stone, and 2 relief wood blocks, printed with Handschy and Daniel Smith lithography inks on 250 gm Rives BFK white paper. The entire edition was printed solely by the artist, without assistance, on a Griffen lithography press in the printmaking studio at the University of Hawaii at Manoa between January 2 and February 15, 1999.
