19th century Indonesian coconut vessel. This small coconut has been brilliantly carved with a strong and beautiful border around the opening. The face of a buffalo with open mouth has been carved at one end of the coconut. The purpose of this coconut is a mystery. It may have been used for some part of the betelnut habit, possibly as a lime vessel.
