Chinese lady's silk upper garment, ca 1880. This garment is made of two separate fabrics. The polished black silk fabric is used to dramatize the collar and button areas. The other fabric is a woven jacquard fabric with the extremely fine and subtle designs of peony and trailing Buddhist symbols. The jacquard fabric is a dark black/purple.
