Laurie McKeon?s interest in the arts started at an early age. She began drawing and she received private instruction in oil painting at age 10. She also earned a summer scholarship to the Chouinard Art Institute in California where she studied figure drawing and painting.
In her early 20?s Laurie satisfied her creativity and curiosity in another way; by sailing around the islands of the South Pacific in a small yacht. She eventually landed on the island of Tahiti where she lived for a year in an isolated farm on the edge of an idyllic tropical lagoon. She credits this experience for her determination to live close to nature ?expressing nature?s intricacies, harmony and beauty in every aspect of my life.?
McKeon?s career in the visual arts began by representing other artists. She ran a successful art consulting business representing more than fifty visual artists in California. She put on private showings of their works in art centers across the U.S. from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Pebble Beach, California.
After a 15 year lapse, Laurie returned to creating her own art. She now devotes her full time to painting in various media. Her subject matter reflects her love of the tropics. ?Hawaii is filled with inspirational materials. All things tropical weave their way into my work.?
Regardless of the subject matter she is exploring, Laurie?s goal remains always: ?to share the endless beauty I discover in nature, offering to others a resting place for the soul.?
