17th-18th century Indian bronze Ganesha. Ganesha is a Hindu deity derived from the Indian culture of the 3rd and 4th centuries. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati. Shiva became angry and cut off the head of his son. He was talked into restoring him, however the head of an elephant was the only head available. He is the most popular of all of the Hindu deities. He is called the "Remover of Obstacles" and is called upon by adherents to bring them success and wealth. This Ganesha is accompanied by two divine consorts and carries the attributes of Hinduism. The entire surface has been smoothed by handling while giving prayers. The third eye jewel and his two bejeweled eyes are missing their gemstones.
